Does the local galactic standard of rest oscillate?

K.A. Innanen, Dept of Physics & Astronomy, York University, Toronto, Canada

An axisymmetric model galaxy is described with a triple resonance at the Sun, relating the galactic year, the epicyclic and vertical periods. The results of perturbing this model near the Sun with an empirical (non-self-consistent), periodic influence in the galactic interior (eg a bar or non-axisymmetric bulge) are described. One of these is a modest periodic oscillation of the local standard of rest.
