Symmetrical Periodic Orbit in the Three Body Problem. A Variational Approach

The variational method for searching plane symmetrical periodic orbits is used. The orbits are defined as minimizers of Lagrangian action functional. According to V.Barutello, D.Ferrario and S.Terracini all finite symmetry groups can be reduced to a short list. A number of symmetrical orbits, which are equivariant with respect to these groups with several values of angular velocity of rotating frame, are received. The properties of received symmetrical orbits are discussed. All orbits are compared with numerical simulation. This approach make it possible to formulate restricted four body problem.
