A course will be given on Galactic structure, dynamics and chemical evolution by N. Y. Sotnikova from St. Petersburg State University. 32 h. lectures, 8 h. exercises, numerical projects. Contact Aleksandr Mylläri for registration. Course dates: Febr. 15 - Apr. 15, room Qh314 (3rd floor) Wednesdays 10-12, Thursdays 8-10.

The course aim is to give a global view of the Milky Way as a galaxy and of its formation history. Using the Milky Way as a guide the course presents an introduction to the dynamical processes responsible for the formation, structure, evolution, and present-day appearance of galaxies and the stellar systems they contain. Listening to lectures will not be the main method of learning. We will fulfill several galactic dynamics projects connected with basic points of N-body simulations (methods for constructing equilibrium models, relaxation processes, etc).
