How to get to Tuorla Observatory
The observatory is between Kaarina and Piikkiö (phone
book map page 25 coordinates V9). The turnoff is off the main
Turku-Helsinki road to the right (when driving towards Helsinki). Drive
about 50 metres and take the first turn left. The observatory is about
300 m up the hill.
Bus
Take any bus from Turku (except Express buses) going to
Piikkiö, Paimio, Salo, Kemiö, or Taalintehdas. Buses leave
from the main bus station (apart from 111 and 116 which leave from the
marketplace), from opposite
the cathedral, or from any other stop along Uudenmaankatu. Ask for a
ticket to
"Tuorlan observatorio". It will cost you a few euros and takes about 25
minutes.
Car
Drive along Uudenmaankatu (old road to Helsinki, number 110).
The
observatory tower can be seen sticking up from the forest quite clearly
from the road. You'll see signs like "Varsinais-Suomen
maaseutuoppilaitos", "Tuorlan observatorio", "Tuorlantie",
"Tuorlan Puoti & Kahvila Hostel", and a sign with the
international youth hostel symbol. The trip takes about 20 minutes from
the
centre of Turku. Parking is available.
