Quasar monitoring started at Tuorla Observatory in the early 1980's.
Tuorla Observatory is located at latitude 60° 24' 57'', longitude
22° 26' 42'' E, at the altitude of 53 meters. At first we used the 70cm
Schmidt telescope with photographic plates. This type of monitoring ended in
the beginning of 1990's. After that we have occasionally used the 2.5m
Nordic Optical Telescope on La Palma,
Canary Islands also for quasar monitoring.
During 1994-95 we upgraded our 1.03m telescope's electronics and purchased
a ST-8 CCD-camera and a V-filter for the telescope. The field size with our
current system is 5'34'' x 3'42''. First observations, with this system,
were made in the fall 1995. After this we have used the telescope for blazar
monitoring during every clear night. We have concentrated in monitoring
blazars that show activity also in the gamma-ray regime. Our object list
is shown in the table below.
