NOT and service building
NOT seen from above. The building in front is the service building, which has been enlarged since this photo was taken. Taken in February 1998.
Dome and mirror moving device
The strange metal thingy on the right is a device with which the primary mirror can be taken out and put back in the telescope. Taken in March 2000.
The NOT dome

Observing room 1

Observing room 2
The observing room equipment. The computer in the middle operates the telescope and the one to the right of it operates most of the instruments. Taken in March 2000.

Primary mirror and SOFIN

Secondary mirror
Support structure for the secondary mirror underneath the mechanism which operates the upper hatch open and closed. Taken in March 2000.
Side ports
Side ports (4 double doors) are opened during the observations to enable air to move freely in the dome. Taken in March 2000.

ALFOSC and StanCam dewers
ALFOSC attached to the telescope. In front the dewer for liquid nitrogen that keeps the camera cold. On top the dewer for StanCam, which is a smaller camera always attached to the telescope. Taken in March 2000.

Ice on structures
With freezing temperatures, high humidity, and high winds ice is formed on the metal structures. Taken in February 2000.

Ice on the weather station. Checking the situation is a former Astronomer in Charge, Hugo Schwarz. Taken in February 2000.
Protected staircase
With winter conditions and ice forming on the dome the purpose of this protective ceiling on the staircase becomes obvious. Taken in February 2000.
