The summer school organizers organized
two mountain trips for the weekend between the two weeks of lectures.
On Saturday, 29th of July, we started our climb to Carn Liath.
A view of Loch Moraig on the way up.
We had to walk through a boggy moor to
get to the slopes of Carn Liath.
A long way to the top of the mountain.
A view backwards, towards Blair Atholl.
Looking down... Heather grew plentiful on the
slopes.
A view toward Beinn A'Chart and/or
Beinn Dearg (I presume).
A view toward Blair Atholl (or Glen Garry).
The whitish blob in the middle is Blair Castle. Note the ominous
clouds above the distant mountains.
Loch Moraig seen from the top of Carn Liath
(through a cloud).
A view south toward Killiecrankie (through a
cloud). After this photo it started to rain (A LOT) and we ran back
down - each of us as fast as we could.
As soon as we had descended from the mountain
the rain ceased. It seemed to be relatively clear at the top of Carn Liath,
too. My proposition of going up there again was correctly understood as
a joke - after all, we were totally and utterly wet after the rain.
A view of Loch Moraig on the way down.
The Sun was shining happily as we returned to
the cars.
But still the clouds reminded us of the
precarious nature of Scottish weather.
