International Year of Astronomy 2009

Description of the IYA from the international web site (see link on the right): The International Year of Astronomy (IYA2009) will be a global celebration of astronomy and its contributions to society and culture, highlighted by the 400th anniversary of the first use of an astronomical telescope by Galileo Galilei. The International Year of Astronomy 2009 is a global effort initiated by the International Astronomical Union and UNESCO to help the citizens of the world rediscover their place in the Universe through the day- and night-time sky, and thereby engage a personal sense of wonder and discovery.

Professional and amateur astronomers all around the world make their passion to astronomy known to the general public. Tuorla Observatory is no exception and this web site has been created to advertise our effort in this matter. Most of the material and events will be in Finnish, but non-Finnish speakers may follow our effort through these English pages.
