Turku - General Information and Transportation

Turku, (in Swedish Åbo), the oldest university city and former capital of Finland, is situated by the Baltic Sea, at the mouth of the River Aura. The city and the its lovely archipelago have something to offer for everyone.

Turku is easily accessed both by air and sea. There is a passenger harbour and an airport. The distance between Turku and Helsinki is about 160 kilometres, only 30 minutes by air or about 2 hours by train or bus. Kupittaa Railway Station (trains from Helsinki) is right next to the Turku Technology Center, where BioCity Building is located.

If you arrive by air, there is a bus (bus no 1) connection from the Turku airport to the Market Square. The taxi fare from the airport to the congress venue is approximately FIM 90. The taxi phone number in Turku area is 10041 or when calling from a mobile phone 0100 0041.

There are four good reference marks on your way to the congress venue: the Market Place, the River, the Cathedral, and the large glass-wall building of BioCity in which the Mauno Koivisto Centre is located. When taking a taxi to the congress venue, ask the taxi driver to take you to BioCity.
