Observations at Tuorla
Despite of its closeness to Turku, Tuorla Observatory is still a viable site for optical observations. In particular the southern skies are still rather dark. Thus there are good prospects of keeping Tuorla Observatory as the number one optical observatory in Finland. Work is in progress to improve the 70 cm Schmidt telescope by adding to it a CCD camera, and also further improvements are planned for the 1 m photometric telescope. The latter has been the main instrument of the Observatory and has been heavily used in the CCD photometry of quasars.

There are five telescopes at Tuorla Observatory, but the most important observations are made abroad, especially at the Nordic Optical Telescope (NOT).
